INITIAL RESEARCH

Conceptualising
From the very beginning, I began by reflecting on my personal interest and experience and tried to find a meaningful topic to develop. I spent some time brainstorming, developing broad ideas about synaesthesia, emotions, and sensory experiences. Thus, I came up with the idea of visualising sound.

In this initial stage, I am making sure to create a solid foundation of my concept, first by doing ample research into the relationship that sound, emotions, and multisensory experiences share. I researched on different senses like sight and sound and how specific soundscapes can enable sensory and emotional recollection. I will be doing analysis of projects and case studies that have utilized multisensory audio-visual experience in hopes to shape a clearer direction of ideas.

In this stage, I am also brainstorming for potential experiments and thinking about the possible tools I could use later on in the project. However, for now I am thinking of doing hands-on experimentations first instead of diving into technolgical ones.

  • Branching out keywords related to the topic synaesthesia and multisensory adio-visual experience

  • Dumping my thoughts in miro Board to organise them and have a clearer overview of my thought processes.

PREPARING FOR RESENTATION IN WK 2

I am quite worried even though it is just the beginning of the project, but that is precisely why, as the direction still seems uncertain. Perhaps it is the word ‘synaesthesia’ that got me feeling this way because of how specific this concept is and how hard it is to get around this concept. Despite all this, I am still determined I will find a clearer direction by branching out and shifting my focus on other closely related areas.

This week, we prepared a presentation deck as a refresher on our topic, where we talked about our objective, readings, artist inspirations, challenges, weaknesses and strengths.
