THE GHOST OF THE MACHINE IS ACTUALLY AN ANGEL

✲ Things she talked about

  • ꕀ Physical and Digital Interactions
  • ꕀ Image to Image Mapping
  • ꕀ Tech Sustainability

"A lot of times, things may initially look like preliminary attempts, but we have to know that experiments do not always have to be perfect."

This project fascinates me alot because of the concept...it's making me hungry...

Tech Sustainability

By reducing loaded data,
it improves efficiency

  • ꕀLazy Loading

  • ꕀ Think about what kind of image we want to put on the screen

  • ꕀ Optimising fonts using WOFF web fonts and subset fonts (eg. glyphs)

  • ꕀ Designing clear and concise UI/UX for easy navigation using navbar

  • ꕀ Reduce the use of JavaScript which needs more processing

  • ꕀ Use static webpages instead of Wordpress

  • ꕀ Reducing the use of white space

  • ꕀ Enabling dark mode and using darker and richer colours

Ashley talking about how digital efficiency means more consumption
Ashley suggesting new ways to be efficient digitally in another perspective

"We as humans can't foresee these images. We cannot imagine what illustration the machine will next generate so it kinda gives us the feeling of surprisement."

"Machines are something we humans create to have a sole purpose to the world - a messenger. Just like how Gods create angels to be a messenger."

"SO, DON'T BE SCARED OF TECHNOLOGY."

- Ashley Hi, 2024

Everything she said above really hit the right spots. I felt like those words were meant for me to be heard and I really needed those words of inspiration. It is so true that whenever we use technology, we should always be open to mistakes and expect the unexpected outcomes because that's usually when the magic and surprises happen.

Needless to say, the last sentence she made was so short yet it impacted me greatly.

  • Olivia Selfridge's 'Pandemonium's Friendly Demons' illustrates various code elements or common bugs as "friendly" challenges, making complex issues more approachable.
  • This chart shows how simple rules can create complex patterns by changing a row of cells over time, with each rule making the cells look different as they evolve.

Moving Forward to Week 10

Andreas mentioned that prototyping includes ideation and under ideation there are probably experimentations we did that doesn't meet the outcome but we can add them into our dissertation first then re curate it later.

I should also really get started on curating my website. It doesn't have to be beautifully designed, it should just be functional. Pay attention to the quality. One week at a time. Set milestones for myself and continue to be consistent with my work and progress.

Since my project is about memory soundscapes and I am more interested in the audio-visual part, that should be my first stepping stone to focus on ways I can translate audio into visuals using technology. I can later incorporate memory as a theme to make it more interesting and relevant to my project.
