ོ࿐˖✶⊹₊𖦹 W.10 TRANSITIONING FROM EXPERIMENTS TO PROTOTYPES 𖦹₊⊹✶ ࣪˖࿐ོ

NEW IDEATION SKETCHES

✲ Transition from physical to the digital world
I narrowed down to 2 experimentations with bigger potentials - 3 and 4A and further developed ideas from there.

✲ Reasons include
  • ꕀ Personal touch & EXP.3 was especially therapeutic
  • ꕀ EXP.4A starts with sound to trigger memory
  • ꕀ Generic sounds are effective in relatability

I'm thinking of combining both experiments and replacing hand drawings with something else that can hopefully elevate the personal and interactive experience.
drawing the sound and scene of a recalled memory

listening to a soundscape and draw the recalled memory

IDEA 1
SHAPING MEMORIES

Firstly, participants will listen to a short duration of a soundscape

Based on whatever memories triggered, participants will interact witht the board of shapes

Only interacted shapes will appear on the screen

Hand motion affects how the visuals appear through sensors and determined by number of taps, speed, light etc.

IDEA 2
Interactive Planting Memory Garden

a safe space for memory sharing
through shapes and sounds

✲ Soundscape to Shapes and
back to Sound:
Firstly, listen to a soundscape. Next, based on whatever memories triggered, participants will mold shapes that they associate with sounds to reflect personal memories or emotions.

✲ Planting Shapes: Each time a shape is touched, it gets “planted” in a virtual garden on the screen, with its associated sound and visual representation displayed.

✲ Growth Over Time: The more a participant interacts with a shape, the more it visually "grows" (changes colors, gets bigger, or develops new visual elements), representing the deepening of their connection to that memory.

✲ Garden Narratives: Participants can narrate stories or memories associated with each "plant," which plays back when they revisit the garden.

Transitioning from
Research Proposal Outline to Dissertation

In this digital day and age, there's a growing number of youths who are prone to short-term memory loss due to over usage of phones.

"Higher amounts of screen time are connected to worse cognitive abilities (including memory), less sleep, and less physical activity"

- Dr. Nicole Beurkens
(Child Psychologist)

Rethinking the objective and what value my project can bring to my target audience, while considering my potential stakeholders.

3 Challenges and Goals that give purpose to the project:

  • 01 - over reliance on phones to store memory
  • 02 - long duration of screen usage affects memory (National Library of Medicine US)
  • 03 - using sounds as the main memory trigger to challenge the traditional use of photographs

Moving Forward to Week 11

Unfortunately, I had an eye injury this week which affected my work flow and I was extremely stressed about it. The corneal abrasion caused sharp pains, swelling, light sensitivity, and severe discomfort so I couldn't keep them open for more than a few minutes before they begin tearing and closing involuntarily and this persisted on for the next 3 weeks...

Attend a CID Lab Workshop next week to figure out how I can use Bare Conductive Touchboard in my prototype making.
